Equipment for a High Pitch Roof: Installing Jacks and Boards

Many times people do not understand the variables that play into why some roofs seem to be installed instantaneously and others seem to take forever. I am going to touch on just one of those variables here and that is roof pitch or steepness and the equipment needed for high pitch roofs.

Typical residential roofs range from 1/12(flat)-12/12(very steep).
A roof pitch ranging from 1/12-5/12 is going to be easy to walk on and make progress almost as quick as if the crew was on level ground.

A roof ranging in pitch from 6/12-8/12 may still be walkable, but much harder to maneuver and will cause progress to be slower. Some roofs in this range require special equipment installed on the roof in order to access it with greater ease.

A roof from 9/12 and up is often referred to as a jacker because they always require special equipment.

Equipment that is often used is jacks and boards.
This variable alone will cause a job to take twice as long as a roof of lower pitch.
Below is a video of jacks and boards being installed.
